Mary's Pub & Music Room is almost into it's third iteration as The Millbrook R&B with new owner, Tom Zengen. Gone is the pool table, the crap on the walls, the crap hanging from the ceiling ... essentially everything that was done during iteration #2 (Seany B's) is being taken out and Tom is bringing it back somewhat to it's former glory.
Cool. I'll be working the bar for a few days during the week and maybe a weekend day as well. I'll be hosting the open mic night which is Thursday so far. The piano is back ... also cool. Maybe get some jazz in there? I'm favoring a heavy acoustic format with some small-amplifier rock. Let's see how it goes. It ain't my joint so all I can is make suggestions.
When? Soon.
Next year I want to produce a FOUR CHOREOGRAPHER show at Rhinebeck. Four choreographers, each performing a 20 minute piece. Now ... who shall it be? I'd like to keep it "modern, jazz" and might consider a "contemporary" as well.
The problem is with this sort of thing ... because there is only three shows and the theatre is kinda small ... there's not enough money to pay all the dancers unless I can get a grant - which is unlikely in this economic environment. So, it's basically expenses are covered. Which with the price of gas is not such a little thing. Anyway ... more to follow ... and contact me if you're interested.
The following is the complete piece from Erick Hawkins' America. It's about 15 minutes so give it a minute or three to download. I think it'll be worth the wait.
